@SATISH: EP means Extended play (45 rpm) contains 3-4 songs.Sometimes music company releases 2 EP's of the same movie containing different tracks.Example like "YEH VAADA RAHA" (1982).Full version of songs are not released on EP's where.....
LP means Long play (33-1/3 RPM) and also 45 RPM (example DON,AGREEMENT etc).In LP complete songs of the film are released.
Apart from this SP means Short Play containing 2 tracks (45 rpm) example "MAHAAN"
Super Seven (size like EP but played at 33-1/3 rpm.It contains full songs) example JULIE
The price difference of these records at that time :
SP - Rs 10/-
EP - Rs 18/-
LP 45 RPM - Rs 35/-
LP 33-1/3 RPM Rs 48/- to Rs 55/-
Mostly Records released on EMI vere little cheaper than other music companies.

Satishji, As there is 1st class & 2nd class in trains India so Music Companies used to make a Long Play or LP which used to be costly, a big size vinyl record which had all the songs with speed 33 1/3 rpm if 6-7 songs total duration approx max 20 -20 mins on each side & 45 rpm if 4 or 5 songs 10-10 mins each. The other cheap version was EP (Extended Play) though the name means songs should have been extended but in this case it was edited to 2 paras from 3 paras or some music or some songs, majority of them having speed 45 rpm. But bcos of editing the sound quality is much better in EP. Also there are other options available at that time as SP (Short Play) & Super 7 which has also better sound effects. I hope it is cleared. Any more questions welcome.....

I really love the way we can actually listen to songs and refer to the inlay card of the movie. I am feeling that I am in the 90's when I used to listen songs on a cassette player.

Rockme ji, The story of lady searching for 45 years song is fake....she was talking of the song in 1940's...& the song then played was in stereo effect.....as the song was in hindi, stereo effect came in India in 1975 in sholay....so how come 1940's song sounded like 1980's??? Its gimmick by olx....
Anybody has Shaan - Music piece of Sunil Dutt murder (dogs chasing, etc) which polydor has released in stereo in EP. Pls upload....

Yes, the 1st LP record is of Jal bin...Sholay was full movie stereo songs & background music also with dialogues...jal bin....was stereo only the soundtrack....but still it was 1970-71...and ad was talking of 1940's???

Yes Mr. Srivastava, I am fully agree with u, hmv is famous for chopping their songs ( faced this many a times ). Also sound quality of almost 90% of their songs is below average ( compared with universal ). Another album of Shatrughan is Gai or gori which has good kishoreda song
